The Dead Head - Minimum order 12

What the heck is a dead stick head? What the heck is dead sticking? As the name implies, keeping your rod still and letting the rocking and drifting action of the boat do the ‘work’, is dead sticking – there ain’t much to it. When the temperatures go down, dead sticking tactics are deadly!!

My good friend, Thomas Powell, aka Loco Pescado, taught me the dead sticking technique. Since he relayed that knowledge to me, I can’t tell all his secrets because you might be competing against him in a tournament one day. If you beat him with his own tactics, I’m afraid I’d pay the price.

Fish are cold blooded and by definition, when the water gets colder (below 48 ºF or so), they are not going to chase a bait that is ‘zooming’ by or being ‘slow rolled’ for that matter. They’ll suspend in one place in the water column and they’ll strike a lure if the lure is dangling in front of them by the rocking action of the boat or if it drifts by them very slowly as the wind pushes the boat along – but they won’t chase it.

Dead sticking heads are typically 0.75 ounce and 1.0 ounce. Normally, these sizes are sufficient to keep the lure in position as you “work them”. ReAxtion Dead Sticking heads are more balanced when compared to regular round head jigs or Coho heads. I usually rig up two rods and place the butt of the rods against my hips. And basically, stand there……and wait for the strike. Often the tap is light so do not hesitate to set the hook. Often, the strike on the dead stick lure is the same as a hit on live bait. It’s a thrilling sight to see the rod tip go down into the water and under the boat!

The photo below illustrates a dead stick head rigged with a Rainbow Trout Bass Assassin. I have found this color in the Bass Assassin line to be the best for me on Lake Texoma. That is one of Loco's secrets that he doesn't want to get out !!

What makes the ReAxtion Dead Head different? As shown by the pictures above, you can see that the eye of the hook is moved further to the rear of the head. This helps the lure in the water appear to be more natural than a round head lure or Coho head.

There is one other advantage to dead sticking………you can often dead stick all day and never see another boat. Not many folks will brave the winter months to chase striped bass. Never a problem with launching when the temperatures are in the 40 ºF

All lures are individually hand painted and none are the same. The lure colors with highlights vary from just the nose being highlighted to the back and/or belly of the lure being highlighted.

I do not create the lures until you order.......so the paint is fresh.... Seriously, there are many color combinations and I cannot stock such an inventory. So, I keep "blanks" in stock and the color you order is painted after I receive the order. Since I use the best paints in the industry today, it takes 24 hours between coats for the paint to cure. Therefore, typical ship time is 3 to 4 days after you order.
